Mary Ellen Long

Mary Ellen Long, 79, of State Street, Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.), died Saturday, October 23, 2004, in the Henry Healthcare Center of The Lutheran Home at Topton, Longswamp Twp., where she was a patient since August 4, 2004. She was married to the late Arlan W. Long who died September 1, 1995.

Born in Topton, PA, she was a daughter of the late William B. and the late H. Louisa (Smith) Herbein. She taught 3 ^rd and 4 ^th grade at The Lutheran Home at Topton, during the late 1940’s. She was a graduate of Kutztown State Teacher’s College, now Kutztown University, Kutztown, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Longswamp Lioness Club, Mertztown. She was a member of Longswamp UCC Church where she was a past choir member and Sunday School Superintendent. She was currently serving as the Treasurer of the Church Women’s Group.

She is survived by Son, Timothy H. husband of Beverly J. (Rothermel) Long, Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.); Daughter, Eloise M. Long, Topton; 2 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 4 Step Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Glenn A. Long, who died October 4, 1986.

Funeral Services are Wednesday, October 27, 2004, 10:30 AM from Longswamp UCC Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.). Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.). Friends may call Tuesday, 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 E. Weis Street, Topton, and Wednesday, 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the church.

The family requests contributions to the Memorial Fund of Longswamp UCC Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown, 19539. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
