Mark Thomas Yanus, 65, of Kutztown, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 31, 2022 in his residence. He was the husband of Karen E. (Kirsch) Yanus, whom he married on September 10, 1977.
Born in Nanticoke, Luzerne Co., Mark was a son of Mary Ann (Polniaszek) Yanus, of Carroll Valley, PA, and the late Michael Thomas Yanus. He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Laureldale. Mark was employed as a Service Manager by Engines, Inc., Northampton, for 27 years. Prior to that, he worked as a Diesel Technician for Diesel Service, Glenside, for 23 years.
Mark enjoyed racing and Chevrolet cars, especially his yellow Corvette, which he fondly named Daffodil. He came of age and fell in love at the Reading Fairgrounds; later, he was a member of its Historical Society. Mark listened to every Philadelphia Phillies game on the radio and was an avid gardener, nurturing countless plants and flowers until they outgrew their pots; his rubber tree plant, Harry, has eternally “high hopes” for a World Championship. He enjoyed his many trips to Key West, where The Schooner Wharf Bar was “the one he liked best.” Above all, Mark loved spending time with his wife, Karen, and “kid,” Ali, and had the philosophy that all good things come in 3’s.
Along with his wife of 44 years, Karen, mother Mary Ann, and daughter Alixandra B. Yanus of High Point, NC; Mark is survived by his two sisters, Margaret, wife of Matthew Lechowicz, Vero Beach, FL and Donna, wife of John T. Cecil, Jr., Ijamsville, MD; brother, Thomas, husband of Jill, Port Orange, FL; dear cousin, Kathy, wife of Ron Feist, Mocanaqua, PA; and Daffodil.
Karen and Ali would like to express their gratitude to Mark’s cardiologists, past and present, especially Matthew Martinez, MD, and Alma Ohl, CRNP, for giving them the gift of additional time with their “bubster” and “daddy.”
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Mark’s life will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested and masking is suggested.
