Marguerite E. Schmeltzle

Marguerite E. (Engle) "Maggie" Schmeltzle, 88, formerly of Allentown and Lenhartsville, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Cornerstone Living Memory Care Community, New Tripoli. She was the widow of Paul H. Schmeltzle, who died on October 5, 2017.

Born in Hamburg, Marguerite was a daughter of the late Calvin S. and Ellen K. (Hoster) Engle. She attended the former Perry High School and was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood. Following high school, Maggie was employed as a sewing machine operator in Hamburg. Most recently, Maggie worked in the bakery at Weis Markets, Emmaus, for 18 years, until her retirement in 2008. Maggie enjoyed taking care of her home in Allentown. She especially enjoyed tending her flower beds and gardening and cutting her grass. She also was an avid Phillies fan and liked to read books and complete cross-word puzzles. Above all, Maggie loved spending time with her family.

Maggie is survived by her two children, Lori J. (Adam), wife of Richard S. Luckenbill, Bowers, and Sharon L. (Adam), widow of Ken Daugherty, Altoona; daughter-in-law, Gladys (Adam) Fritz, Reading, widow of predeceased son, Jeffrey A. Adam, who died on October 30, 2019; four brothers; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. In addition to her husband, parents and son, Maggie was predeceased by four brothers.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Maggie's life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 25 E. Weis Street, Topton. Burial will follow in Frieden's Church Cemetery, Lenhartsville. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
