Lucille R. “Luci” (Breidegam) Adam, 73, of Kutztown, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Norman E. Adam, whom she married on April 29, 1967.
Born on her family’s farm in Ontelaunee Township, Luci was a daughter of the late Paul E. Breidegam, Sr. and Mabel I. (Lindenmuth) Breidegam. She was a graduate of Fleetwood Area High School and was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, Richmond Township. Luci was employed by The Kutztown Area School District for 28 years, working as a Cashier in the cafeteria at Kutztown Elementary School and later, Kutztown Area Middle School. She previously worked at the former Fancy Pantry restaurant in Kutztown and the former Kirbyville Inn.
Luci was an integral part of the Berks County Jr. Miss Program, later known as the Berks County Outstanding Young Women’s Scholarship Program, for 45 years. For the past 33 years, Luci served alongside her husband Norm as the Co-Chair of the organization, until their resignation in 2021 due to Luci’s health concerns. Luci loved this organization, and everyone involved, including the yearly contestants and volunteers with her whole heart.
She also served as the Co-Chair of the Lehigh Valley Outstanding Young Women’s Organization for eight years; assisted with the Miss Berks County Pageant for 10 years; The Pennsylvania Jr. Miss Pageant for eight years, where she also served on the Board of Directors and was a Chaperone; and the Kutztown Jaycee Wives group, where she was a Past-President.
In her free time, Luci enjoyed cooking, taking care of, and planting flowers, and visiting lighthouses around the country. She also enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets, taking yearly vacations to the shore, traveling with her family and spending time with her friends. Above all, Luci was such a hardworking, humble and modest person. She would do anything for anyone, especially her husband Norm, always being his “behind the scenes” assistant and never taking any credit for her duties. As long as she was taking care of others, she was happy.
Along with her husband of 54 years, Norm, Luci is survived by her two children, Yvette E. Adam, with whom she was the dedicated caregiver for 49 years; and Ryan S. Adam, of Kutztown; two grandchildren, Ava V. Adam and Quinn N. Adam; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Maurer) Breidegam, widow of predeceased brother, Paul E. Breidegam, Jr., who died September 25, 2019; brother-in-law, David H. Adam, Orefield; and her extended relatives and many friends.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Luci’s life will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Jane M. Kropa officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, Kutztown (Richmond Township).
