Lucie A. Geist, 85, of Richmond Township, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 in ManorCare, Muhlenberg Township, where she was a patient since June 15, 2010. She was the widow of Ray H. Geist who died July 13, 1998.
Born in Gommern, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Valentine (Kasprowicz) Gartner. She was employed as a looper by the former Textile Industries, Wyomissing during the 1950’s. In the 1960’s she, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Geist Appliances, Kutztown. She then worked as a server for M. W. Wood Company in dining services at Kutztown University. Later, she worked in the housekeeping department for Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, and lastly in the housekeeping department at East Penn Manufacturing Company, Lyon Station, until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Kutztown and Lyons Fire Company Ladies Auxiliaries. She was a supporter of Disabled American Veteran organizations, S.P.C.A., and local law enforcement organizations.
She is survived by Son, Ray M. Geist, companion of Judith A. Sanders, with whom she resided and a daughter, Tina M. (Geist) Smith, Fleetwood. There is a sister, Elizabeth (Gartner) widow of Ellsworth Wenrich, Robesonia and a Granddaughter, Melissa M. (Dittbrenner) wife of Jesse A. Keim, Breinigsville. She was predeceased by Brothers, Rudy Gartner and Paul Gartner.
Private graveside services in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
The family requests contributions be made to Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 N. 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
