Lona E A Swartzentruber

Lona E. A. (Sanders) Swartzentruber, 89, of Longswamp Township, died Friday, July 2, 2010 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a patient since January, 2007. She was the widow of Allen Swartzentruber who died October 15, 2009.

Born in Topton, she was a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Sue (Biehl) Sanders. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mertztown. She was a 1938 graduate of Kutztown High School. Mrs. Swartzentruber, along with her husband owned and operated a tomato farm in Longswamp Township for Campbell’s Soup Company from 1942 until 1964. Prior to that, she worked as a laborer at the former Royal Manufacturing, Alburtis, and during World War II as a riveter at the former Vultee Aircraft, Allentown. She was a member of the former Longswamp Lioness Club, Mertztown, where she was a Melvin Jones recipient and past president. She was a den mother for Longswamp Cub Scout Pack #175, Mertztown.

She is survived by Daughter, Linda J. (Swartzentruber) wife of Theodore G. Sterner, Allentown; Son, Glenn A. husband of Dolores A. (Hein) Swartzentruber, Longswamp Township. In addition, there are 3 Grandchildren, Beth A. (Swartzentruber), wife of Rev. Jeremiah A. Sassaman, Sarah E. Sterner and Kyle D. Swartzentruber. Also surviving is a Sister, Myrl (Sanders) widow of William Kramer, a resident of Luther Meadows on the campus of The Lutheran Home at Topton. She was predeceased by 2 Sisters, Anna S. S. (Sanders) DeLong- Fenstermacher and Ella (Sanders) Rothermel.

Memorial Services are Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11:00 AM from Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Saturday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church.

Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
