Lester L. Kerchner, 89, of Kutztown, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he was a resident since June 2010. He was the husband of Fern A. (Schlegel) Kerchner, whom he married June 3, 1944.

Born in Windsor Township, he was a son of the late Charles M. and Cora (Mengel) Kerchner. Mr. Kerchner was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Lester was a self-employed dairy farmer for over 25 years, before moving from Albany Township to Kutztown in 1962. He was also employed as the head custodian by the Kutztown Area School District for 26 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Kerchner was a member of the Kutztown Grange for over 60 years, where he served on the executive committee. He was also a member of the State and National Grange, Kutztown Rod & Gun Club, Pikeville Sportsmens Association, and Virginville Lions Club. Lester enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his vegetable garden.

He is survived by Wife; Son, Allen C., husband of Regina D. (Kistler) Kerchner, Mechanicsburg; Daughter, Jane R. (Kerchner), wife of Steven M. Darmofal, West Chester; Brother, Elton, husband of Betty Kerchner, Hamburg; Sister, Ella (Kerchner) widow of Ethan Berger, Kutztown. He is also survived by 6 Grandchildren, Philip, Brock, Karissa, Dana, Katarina, and Hannah; 2 Great Grandchildren, Lilith and Gabriella, and a Step-Great Grandchild, Kyle. He was predeceased by a Son, Leroy L. Kerchner in 1965; Daughter, Delores F. Kerchner in 1971; Sisters, Edna, Helen, Arlene, Edith, Grace, and Brothers, Raymond, Paul, Lloyd, and Stanley.

Funeral Services are Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:30 AM from St. Johns Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Friday evening, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.
