LeRoy B. Hassler, 91, formerly of 316 Lyons Road (Maxatawny Township), died Thursday, February 19, 2004, in Henry Health Care Center, The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he had been a resident since December 5, 2001. He was married to Esther M. (Rohrbach) Hassler of the Buehrle Center, Topton, they were married on December 25, 1936.
Born in Lyon Station, PA (Berks County), he was a son of the late Howard and the late Bertha (Bieber) Hassler. He was a quality control inspector at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, for 34 years retiring in 1977. Prior to that he was a laborer at Bethlehem Steel, Bethlehem, for 4 years from 1939-1943; and, he was a butcher at the former Lyons Meat Market, Lyon Station, for 14 years. He was president of the church council, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lyon Station, during the late 1960’s. He was a life member of the American Automobile Association. He also served on the Lyons Cemetery Board, Lyon Station, for many years. During the 1940’s he was chief of the Lyons Fire Company, Lyon Station, and a life member since the age of 19. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bowers.
He is survived by Wife; Son, Rev. Larry R. Hassler, Pine Grove; Daughter, Christine E. (Hassler) Lesher, Hamburg (Windsor Township); Sisters, Grace (Hassler) Wahl, Sayre, PA, Corrine (Hassler) Lesher, Topton; 3 Grandchildren, a Great Granddaughter.
Funeral services are Monday at 1:00 PM from Hope Lutheran Church, 550 Fleetwood Road, Bowers. Interment in Lyons Cemetery, Lyon Station. Friends may call Noon until time of services. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
