Leroy E. Schaeffer

LeRoy E. Schaeffer, 83, formerly of Lyon Station, died peacefully, Monday, July 1, 2024, in Berks County Home - Berks Heim, Bern Township, where he had been a guest several months.  He was the loving husband of the late Shirley A. (Oswald) Schaeffer, who died November 11, 2023.  Born in Rockland Township, LeRoy was a son of the late Arthur W. and Minnie M. (Dries) Schaeffer.  He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bowers.

LeRoy was employed as a press operator for over 35 years until his retirement, at Dana Corporation - Parish Division, Reading.

LeRoy was an animal lover.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was a member of Lyon Fire Company, where he enjoyed bowling, and had bowled several '300' games.

LeRoy is survived by his daughter, JoAnne (Schaeffer), wife of Archie L. Hill, Kutztown.  Other survivors include, sisters Barbara L. (Schaeffer) Wyatt; Linda M. (Schaeffer) Yeager; Brenda J. (Schaeffer) Day, all of Fleetwood; and a brother, Michael C. Schaeffer, Sr., also of Fleetwood.  In addition to his late wife, Shirley and parents, LeRoy was predeceased by two sons, Glenn M. Schaeffer, on June 4, 1980 and Randy L. Schaeffer, on March 2, 1987.

A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate LeRoy's life will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Martin A. Milne, officiating.  Inurnment in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Rockland Township.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be considered in LeRoy's memory to the Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19601.
