LeRoy C. Bauman, 89, of Mertztown, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Sadie (Yoder) Reese Bauman who died December 29, 1985. His longtime companion was the late Minnie E. (Miller) Strunk who died May 14, 2003.
Born in Longswamp Township, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Fianna C. (Hersh) Bauman. Bauman was a Staff Sergeant of the 26th Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army, World War II veteran. He was wounded in combat on August 3, 1943 in Sicily. He received a bronze star, Purple Heart, European-Afican-Middle Eastern Service metal with six bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead. He was employed by Atlas Minerals and Chemicals, Mertztown in the packing department for 32 years, retiring in 1983. LeRoy was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 839, Kutztown; Pike Township Sportsman Association, V.F.W. Post 8282, Breinigsville, and Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion, Topton.
He is survived by Step Daughter, Alverta (Reese) wife of John Stichter, Mertztown, Minnie’s son and caregiver, Willard R. husband of Kathy O. (Henninger) Strunk, Mertztown; 2 Step Grandchildren and 2 Step Great grandchildren. He was predeceased by Brothers, Stanley Bauman, Ernest Bauman, Ralph Bauman; Step Brother, Claude Fairchild husband of Betty (Althouse) Fairchild, of Mertztown. He was also predeceased by an Uncle, Raymond Hersh.
Graveside services with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217 American Legion, Topton, will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
