Lee W. Trout, 87, of Kutztown, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 in Kutztown Manor Nursing Home, Kutztown. He was the husband of Betty E. (Frederick) Trout. They were married February 26, 1949.
Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Lewis M. and Mae L. (Walbert) Trout. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he served as a former member of church council. Lee was a 1943 graduate of Kutztown Area High School where he pitched for the baseball team. Having pitched two no-hitters, he was a member of the Berks County All-Star team. He was also a member of the basketball team. He attended Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University, where he played varsity baseball and basketball for three years.
Lee played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals Farm Team in Lynchburg, VA, and Salisbury, MD. He also played for the former Berks County Recreational League, Kutztown. Lee was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was stationed in the Pacific, Iwo Jima, and Bonin Islands aboard the LSM98. He also was a corporal in the U. S. Army for three years.
Lee was employed as a salesman for East Penn Manufacturing, Lyon Station, for 27 years, 21 of those in truck sales and 6 in office sales, retiring in 1989. He then was employed as Tip Staff at the Berks County Courthouse, Reading, for 12 years, retiring in 2001. Lee assisted in organizing the Kutztown Little League program, was a referee for Berks county basketball and an umpire for Berks county baseball. He was part of the Sesquicentennial Executive Committee, a life time member of Reading-Berks Old Timers, of PIAA Baseball & Basketball officials association, and was inducted into the KAHS Hall of Fame in 2003.
Lee was a long standing member of the Kutztown Jaycees, having served as a senator and past president, during which time the Kutztown Senior Citizens was formed, and was awarded Outstanding Young Man. He was also a member of the Kutztown and Temple Fire Companies. Lee was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Vacationing at the shore with his family, was an important part of Lees life.
He is survived by Wife; Daughters, Suzanne M. (Trout), wife of Jeffrey J. DeTurk, and Renee M. (Trout), wife of Timothy Vanek, both of Kutztown; Grandchildren, Timothy F. DeTurk, Spencer L. DeTurk, companion of Jamie L. Bricker, Christopher J., husband of Jaime A. (Austin)Vanek, Amy B. (Vanek), wife of Luke N. Hubler, and Kati L. (Vanek), wife of Charles F. Newberry. There are also 5 Great Grandchildren, Olivyah, Emma, Karlie and Evan Vanek and Peyton Newberry. He was pre-deceased by a Son, Timothy L. Trout in 1976 and a Sister Dorothy (Trout) Koehler.
Funeral Services are Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment, with military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton will follow in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church.
