Lee W. Erb

Lee W. Erb, 84, a long-time Kutztown resident, recently of Tower Court, Topton, died Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Carol L. (Hauck) Erb. They were married March 5, 1960. Born in Topton, Lee was a son of the late George F. R. and Mae E. (Yoder) Erb. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where he was a life-time member and previously served as a member of the property committee, Deacon, Elder, President of Consistory, President of the Congregation. Lee honorably and faithfully served our country as a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Lee was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School Class of 1955, where he was named "Mr. KAHS". He played basketball and soccer and was president of his class, a position he maintained until his passing. Lee began attending Albright College, Reading, as an Engineering student. However, his interest in aviation and a private pilot's license inspired him to join the Air Force.

After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Lee was first employed in his family's business, Erb Electric, having learned the trade from his father, George F. R. Erb. He then attended and graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, after which he was employed by the Borough of Kutztown Police Department, as a Sergeant. Following his departure from police work, Lee worked for Kraft Foods, Fogelsville, as an electrician for over 25 years until his retirement in 1998.

Mr. Erb served the Borough of Kutztown as Ward I, Judge of Elections, and as a member of Kutztown Municipal Authority. He was an active member of the former Kutztown Jaycees. Lee was a member and served as a past president of CougarTale Athletic Alumni, Kutztown.

Lee was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 153, Kutztown. He had been involved with Camp Edmar Scout Camp, Kutztown, his entire life, where his father George was a founding member. Lee was a member of the Board of Directors, previously serving as president, and currently serving as Vice-President. Lee was a faithful caretaker of the camp.

As a young man, Lee enjoyed flying a Piper Cub. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, inventing in his workshop, traveling the United States, Canada, Germany and wintering in Myrtle Beach, SC. In recent years, Lee looked forward to Sunday evening dinners with family. Lee showed his support of family through attending their many activities.

In addition to his wife of nearly 62 years, Carol L., Lee is survived by two sons, Eric L., husband of Jennifer R. (English) Erb, Kutztown; and Mark E., husband of Kerrie M. (Kyser) Erb, Bowers. Other survivors include a sister, Patricia (Erb), widow of Lee Leibensperger, Allentown. There are five grandchildren: Daniel E., husband of Coryne F. (Hosmer) Erb, Boyertown; Patrick A., husband of Anna D. (Delaney) Erb, Kutztown; David W. Erb, fiance of Lauren Jardine, Breinigsville; Emerson L. Erb; and Quinn M. Erb, both of Bowers. There is also a great granddaughter, Willow Frances Erb, child of Patrick and Anna. There are several nieces and nephews including a great niece, Stacey M. Tobin, Kutztown; and a great nephew, Daniel W. Tobin, Richmond, VA; and a sister-in-law, Grace E. (Angstadt) widow of Edward A. Hauck, Kutztown. In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by a sister, Mary L. (Erb) Schaeffer; and a brother, George H. C. Erb.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Lee's life will be held at the convenience of the family in St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, with his Pastor, The Reverend Scott M. Sanders, officiating. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. There is no public viewing or calling hours.
