Larry D Haas

Larry D. Haas, 71, of Maxatawny Township, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, in his residence surrounded by his wife and children. He was the husband of Mary E. (Malone) Haas, whom he married May 16, 1970 .

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Wayne B. and Mamie C. (Kern) Haas. He was a member of the U.C.C. congregation of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny. Larry was a 1960 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany for two years as a paratrooper. He completed a five year International Correspondence School and also a 2½ year business management class. He was employed for 20 years as a pattern maker for John Medernach, Inc., Whitehall,  which he purchased in 1981 and continued to own and operate until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the National Association of Patternmakers, and the Lancaster and Lehigh County Foundry Associations. Larry was currently a member of the Board of Directors and previously served as Vice President and Treasurer of the cemetery board for Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery for many years .

He is survived by Wife; Son, Christopher D., husband of Laura E. (Archerd) Haas, Littleton, CO; Daughter, Courtney D. (Haas) wife of Michael D. Kellum, Kutztown; Sisters, Christine A. (Haas) Luckenbill, Kempton, Bonita K. Haas, Reading; Brothers, Rev. Dennis W. Haas, Iowa, Richard L., David J. and Timothy N. Haas, all of Kutztown. There are also 4 Grandchildren, Peyson C. and Emerson A. Haas and Maisy A. M. and Cooper M. Kellum.  He was predeceased by a Brother, Alan G. Haas in 2011 .

Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 2:30 PM in Zion's Union Church, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, with Reverend David Stewart Jordan-Haas officiating. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Tuesday, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM in the church .

Box 292, Kutztown, PA 19530-0292 to be utilized for Mesothelioma Research or Zion's Union Church Building Fund, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, PA 19530 .
