Kermit F. Adam, 86, of South Home Avenue, Topton, PA, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, in the family residence. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Heffelfinger) Gregory Adam.
Born in Virginville, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Erma M. (Fegley) Adam. He was the owner/operator of the former Adams Appliance Store, Topton from 1946 to 1991. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving as a 1
st
Lt. in the Signal Corps. He also served in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He was a member of Topton Lions Club for over 60 years and past president, 1957-58, and past secretary of 46 years. He was instrumental in forming seven new Lions Clubs in the area. He was past deputy district governor and cabinet member of Lions International, District #14-P for 10 years. He was past chairman of the Topton branch of American Red Cross and Topton Boy Scout Troup #510. He was past secretary of Topton Merchants Association. He was past president and current board of directors member of Berks County Blind Association for 28 years. He was a member of Huguenot Lodge #377 F.&A.M., Kutztown. He was a member of Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion, Topton. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #560, Kutztown. He was a life member of the Great Valley Basha China-Burma-India Veterans Association, Allentown. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton where he served for six years as a church council member and past president. He was also a choir member and the outdoor sign keeper for over 35 years. He was a former member of Maxatawny Lutheran Church, where he served eight years on church council and was a past president, as well.
He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Betsy (Adam) wife of Jeffrey R. Cascino, Topton; Stepsons, Teddy W. Gregory, Topton, Terry L. husband of Diane (Jackson) Gregory, Shartlesville; Stepdaughter, Penny A. Gregory, Allentown; Brother, Sterling H. Adam, Kutztown; 15 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, Richard S. Adam who died in 2004.
Funeral Services are Thursday, May 25, 2006, 11:00 AM from Trinity Lutheran Church, Home Ave & East Smith St., Topton. Interment with Military Honors in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Friends may call Wednesday, 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis St., Topton.
