Kenneth W Garrett

Kenneth W. Garrett, 80, formerly of Krumsville passed away suddenly on November 7, 2015, shortly after arrival at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Ken was born in Summit Hill, PA, the youngest of 11 children, a son of the late Thomas I. and Anna T. (Fleming) Garrett. He was a loving husband to Marie E. (Kunkel) Garrett, whom he married June 18, 1988. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Kenneth was a veteran of the US Air Force serving as a Staff Sergeant and a graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education. Mr. Garrett was employed as an algebra teacher for 31 years for the Kutztown Area School District. Kenneth also coached the girls’ softball and track teams to State Championships, and served as Athletic Director. Kenneth also was a member of Huguenot Lodge F. & A.M., Kutztown, Kutztown Fire Company, and a former member of Kutztown Lion Club. Many will remember Ken’s charitable actions in Kutztown as a Cougar Card Promoter for the Sports Hall of Fame, Kutztown High School Athletic stadium improvement organizer, and as a member of Kutztown HOBOS. His impact on his blended family, community, and students will be long lasting and fondly remembered.

He is survived by Wife of 27 years, Marie; Son, Mark A. husband of Carolyn S. (Starr) Garrett, Kutztown; Daughters, Jane G. (Garrett) wife of Dean T. Kniss, Kempton, Kathryn L. Garrett wife of Robert A. Ham, Pittsburg, Step sons, Rick L. husband of Linda K. (Miller) Rutherford, Lenhartsville, Bruce D. husband of Heidi L. (Kunkel) Rutherford, Blandon, Kerry P. husband of Tori L. (Fink) Rutherford, Bethlehem. Other survivors include, Brothers, Robert A. husband of Judith Garrett, Corning, NY and Donald R. wife of Carol Garrett, The Villages, FL. There are also 12 Grandchildren, and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 10:30 AM from Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, (Krumsville) PA, with Reverend Dr. Dennis S. Ritter, officiating. Interment in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Thursday, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.
