Kenneth P. Bond, 86, of Mertztown, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023 in his residence. He was the husband of Betty L. (Fenstermacher) Bond, whom he married on June 23, 1962.
Born in Albany Township, Berks County, PA, Kenneth was a son of the late Harold J. and Lena M. (Gehringer) Bond. He attended Kutztown Area High School and received his GED while honorably serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Most recently, Kenny received his honorary diploma by The Brandywine Heights Area School District. Kenny was employed by Mack Trucks, Inc., Macungie, working as a Finish and Inspection Mechanic for 58 years until his retirement in 2008.
Kenny was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown, Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, Pagoda Motorcycle Club, Reading, Mertztown Rod and Gun Club as well as holding many other local rod and gun club memberships throughout the years. Kenny enjoyed gardening, motorcycles, camping, clamming in New Jersey, blue grass festivals, spending time at Lake Wallenpaupack, and watching birds, butterflies, and bald eagles from his front window at home. Kenny will also be remembered for his love of raffle ticket buying and "free contests" that he would enter. These were raffles where he would buy and sell tickets for local gun clubs that he supported. He was even lucky enough to not only win a car, but also a motorcycle.
Along with his wife of 61 years, Betty; Kenneth is survived by his four children, Robin L. (Bond) Ream, Topton, Sally A. (Bond) Keller, Shoemakersville, Amy S. (Bond) Trumbauer, Topton and Christopher K., husband of Sipra S. (Prasad) Bond, New Hope, PA; seven grandchildren, Solyn D. Ream, Sonya E. Ream, Dalton L. Davenport, Emma B. Trumbauer, Charles W.P. Trumbauer, Jacob C. Bond and Ava A. Bond; and one great-granddaughter, Jeah. He is also survived by two sisters, Erma J. Bond, Kutztown and Marie E. Bond, West Reading.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Kenneth's life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, and The Pennsylvania Military Honor Guard, Annville, will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery. A visitation with his family will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
