Mrs. Kathy J. Helbert

Kathy J. (O'Neil) Helbert, 66, of Lyon Station, died Sunday, August 29, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she had been a patient for a week. She was the wife of Stanley R. Helbert. They were married June 9, 1973. Born in West Reading, Kathy was a daughter of the late John S. and Fern M. (Zimmerman) O'Neil. She was a member of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny Kathy was a former member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 15 years, and church sexton for many years.

Kathy was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1972. She first worked at McCrory's, Kutztown, where she met Stanley. Kathy worked in Housekeeping at The Lutheran Home at Topton; then Shaynah Kinner, Kutztown; and The Goddard School, Breinigsville.

Kathy had a love for horses, sewing and camping. After the age of 50, Kathy took up barrel racing, an exercise normally for the younger. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. She had an eye and love for crafts that she shared with her mother and sisters, and she passed along to her granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 48 years, Stanley; Kathy is survived by a daughter, Chelsie L. (Helbert), wife of Anthony S. Kistler, Kutztown; granddaughters: Evelyn M. Kistler and Harper J. Kistler. Other survivors include siblings: Steve J., husband of Cindy (Peters) O'Neil, Kutztown; Andy S., husband of Cindy (Parks) O'Neil, Kutztown; Michael P., husband of Jenn (Swenson) O'Neil, Kutztown. In addition to her parents, Kathy was predeceased by two sisters: Christine P. "Peggy" (O'Neil) Miller and Suzanne M. O'Neil.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. officiated by The Reverend Jeffrey J. Butz, Pastor of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In an abundance of caution, the family requests that masks be worn for indoor activities.
