Kathryn M. Shade

Kathryn M. (Schappell) Shade, 91, of Lyon Station, formerly of Shoemakersville, died peacefully Thursday evening, November 10, 2022, in Tower Health - Reading Hospital, West Reading, where she was transported following a short stay at Promedica, Laureldale.  She was the widow of Harry N. Shade, who died September 5, 2009.  Born in Leesport, Kathryn was a daughter of the late Clarence, Sr., and Mary E. (Keim) Schappell.  She was of the Lutheran faith.

Kathryn first worked as a sewing machine operator at the former Mayfair Industries, Shoemakersville, then as a waitress at the former JoLynn and Leesport Diners.

Kathryn enjoyed dining out and sewing.

Kathryn is survived by a son, David K., husband of Brenda L. (Schwoyer) Shade, Blandon; and a granddaughter, Megan A. (Shade), wife of Thomas Berger, Jr., Palmerton.  In addition to her parents and husband, Harry, Kathryn was predeceased by a son, James Shade; a daughter, Bonnie (Shade) Borkey; sisters: Doris (Schappell) Huff; and Betty Schappell; and brothers: Earl Schappell; Lester Schappell; Clarence Schappell, Jr.; Ralph Schappell; Kenneth Schappell; James Schappell; and Barry Schappell.

A private graveside memorial service to celebrate and honor Kathryn's life will be held in Berks County Memorial Gardens at the convenience of the family.  There is no public viewing or calling times.
