Kathryn E. (Derr) Pensinger, 101, of Mertztown died Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Lutheran Home at Topton, where she had been a resident since 2009. She was the widow of Ray E. Pensinger, Sr. who died August 25, 2008.
Born in Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Frank P. and Clara (Shoemaker) Derr. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Topton, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. Kathryn was a homemaker; prior to that, she was employed as a weaver by the former Topton Silk Mill in the 1930’s. She was a Lecture and pianist of the Pioneer Grange #1777, Topton, and pianist and chaplain at the senior citizens group in Topton for 10 years.
She is survived by Son, Robert L. husband of Daisy M. (Epler) Pensinger, Mertztown; Daughter in law, Sandra L. (Reifinger) Pensinger, Mertztown, widow of Dale A. Pensinger, who died in 2002, 6 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, 2 Step Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Kathryn was predeceased by Son, Ray E. Pensinger, Jr. in 2006, and Daughter in law, Simone (Saguez) Pensinger in 2008.
Funeral Services are Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 122 West Franklin Street, Topton 19562. Interment in Topton Union Cemetery. Friends may call Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church.
The family requests contributions be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Memorial Fund at the above address. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
