Judith L. (Petersen) Steinle, 78, formerly of Kutztown, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in St. Francis Home, Shillington. She was the widow of John A. Steinle, Jr., USMC (Ret.), who died December 2, 2012. They were married on January 26, 1980.
Born in Reading, PA, Judith was a daughter of the late William Garth and Violet Marie (Hupp) Petersen. She was a graduate of Reading High School, and was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reading. She also was a very active member when she belonged to Holy Spirt Lutheran Church of Reading, King of King's Lutheran Church in Oceanside, CA, and most recently, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where she was a member of the alter guild and active volunteer.
Judith was employed for many years as a surgical schedular at St. Joseph Medical Center, at both their Bern Township and former downtown locations until her retirement. She also was employed by Talbott Knitting Mill, Reading, working in the shipping department. While her late husband John was stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA, Judith was very active in several military organizations. She also worked at the base camp's daycare center. She served as a former Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Den Mother in Reading while her children were growing up. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing, but above all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Judith is survived by her three children, Kathleen M. (Hassler), wife of Jeffrey Hertzog, Blandon, Karen M. Hassler, Oley, and Mark A., husband of Holly (Medlar) Hassler, Reading; three stepchildren, Johnna M. Steinle-Plaunt, Camp Hill, Keith A. Steinle, North Carolina, and Anthony A., husband of Sharon (Hess) Steinle, Reading; sister, Jacqueline (Petersen) Flamm, Kutztown; grandchildren, Amber L. Alexander, Alburtis, Thomas V., Jr., husband of Jessica Alexander, Mohnton, Christopher A. Hassler, Reading, Leanna L. Hassler, Reading, David M., husband of Morgan Hassler, Ephrata, Elizabeth K. Hassler, Philadelphia, Ronald G. Seidel, Oley, Barry M., husband of Erica Plaunt, Nicholas Plaunt companion of Kristen Bosack, Kyle Plaunt, all of Harrisburg, Cristin Steinle-Belda, wife of Jay Belda, and Felicia Ann (Steinle), wife of Ryan Bates, both of Houston, TX, Kayla M. (Steinle), wife of Joel Bower, Elizabethtown, Schuyler T. Steinle, Reading; great- grandchildren, Devan M. Hadvab, Cavan J. Hadvab, Isaiah M. Plaunt, Liliana M. Plaunt, Kalia N. Plaunt, Brayden A. Plaunt, Rheya Popp, and Jackson M. Hassler.
In addition to her husband and parents, Judith was predeceased by a brother, Garth W. Petersen, and a grandson, Brad Anthony Plaunt.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Judith's life will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Mary Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
