Joyce W Wehr

Joyce W. (Kutz) Wehr, 89, of Allentown, formerly of Kutztown, died Friday, January 1, 2016 in Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the widow of Charles A. Wehr, who died June 3, 2000.

Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Sadie E. (Hartman) Kutz. Mrs. Wehr was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, and a former member of St. James United Church of Christ, Allentown where she was a member and soloist of the church choir from 1947 to 1976. She was a 1943 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, and a 1946 graduate of the former Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University.  She was a school teacher for 34 years in the Allentown School District, with the last 23 years at Union Terrace School, Allentown, where she retired in 1981. She was a life member of the PA State Education Association; Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Lehigh Chapter; and The Kutztown Historical Society. She was a member of the Mary Livingston Order of Eastern Star #167, Allentown. She served two terms on the Alumni Association of Kutztown University and served in several offices on the board of the Allentown Women Teachers Club. Joyce had a love for traveling and had taken several World cruises.

Mrs. Wehr is survived by a Step-Son, Thomas N. Wehr, husband of Linda R. Rosato, Kempton; Step-Daughter, Sally A. (Knoll), wife of William Getchell, Point Pleasant, Bucks Co.; 2 Step Grandchildren, Lynn E. Heath and Cassandra E. Getchell; and 2 Step Great Grandchildren, Tanner and Miranda Heath. She was predeceased by a Daughter, Nancy J. Henderson in 1989.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend John W. Davies officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
