Mr. John P. Reed

John Philip Reed, 85, of South Whitehall Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 with his loving wife of 57 years, Ellen Marie (Dugin) Reed, faithfully by his side. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial prayer service concluding with military honors will be held at Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., Kutztown, PA.

Born on December 28, 1937, John was the son of the late William Philip Reed and Gladys Ruth (Meadows) Reed. John was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School and Michigan Technological University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). John honorably and faithfully served in The United States Army. After graduate studies in business at the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland, he worked for Rex Chainbelt Inc. (later Rexnord Corporation) in Milwaukee, WI and was later employed by FMC Corporation / Link-Belt in Indianapolis, IN and Morganton, NC and St. Joe Minerals Corporation (later Zinc Corporation of America) in northern New York. He was a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks fraternal organization.

Surviving are his wife by Ellen; his 5 children, Mark T. Reed, Scott A. Reed (Lisa), Robin K. Reed, Tracy S. DeJonge (Stuart), and Carrie R. Ballek (James); and 6 grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Leo, Phoebe, Edward and Luke. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Ann Morrello.

John’s final resting place will be at the Reed family plot in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Iron County, Michigan. Interment with a graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
