Mr. John H. Burkert

John H. Burkert, 79, of Fleetwood, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 in Kutztown Manor Inc., where he was a resident since Friday. He was the husband of Linda O. (Ruff) Burkert, whom he married on November 30, 1991.

Born In Maxatawny Township, John was a son of the late Luther E. and Florence E. (Spayd) Burkert. He was employed as an Equipment Operator by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 25 years until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood.

John was a member of The Kutztown Fire Company, Berks County Mustang Club and the former Kutztown Jaycees. He was an avid sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed baseball, football, basketball and bowling. John also enjoyed going to area parades and yard sales, listening to country music bands, hoedowning, and watching the snow fall.

In addition to his wife Linda, John is survived by his children, Wanda (Burkert) Confer, and her husband David, Breinigsville, and Timothy Burkert, and his wife Lauren, Blandon; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Bowers) Von Steuben, and her husband Jason, Blandon; grandchildren, Rachel Confer, Hayden Burkert and Avery Burkert; step-grandson, Justin Bowers; and a brother, Roy Burkert, Middlesex, VA.

Along with his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers, Leon Burkert in 2019 and Stanley Burkert in 2020.

A viewing will be held on Friday evening, December 17, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. For health and safety concerns, the family request masks be worn while attending the viewing. Burial will be held privately in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Krumsville.
