John D Kern

John D. Kern, 83, of Topton, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at The Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the husband of Anna M. (Leibensperger) Kern, whom he married June 26, 1954 .

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Warren and Clardine (Knappenberger) Kern. Mr. Kern was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. John, along with his late brother, Donald, owned and operated the former Kern Masonry, Topton, for many years retiring in 1996. He was a life member of the Robert M. Fegely Post 8282, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Breinigsville .

He is survived by Wife; Daughters, Diane L. (Kern), wife of Barry L. Hoffmaster, Fleetwood, Karen D. (Kern), wife of Luther A. Whitehead, Avis, Clinton Co.; Sons, John W., husband of Leah K. (Henrich) Kern, Alburtis, James D. Kern, Kutztown; Sister, Betty (Kern), widow of Ralph Bartholomew, Nazareth; Brothers, Dennis Kern and Billy Kern, both of Hamburg. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren; Alex R. Hoffmaster, Gwen E. (Hoffmaster) Chand, Jill L. Hoffmaster, Abbi N. (Kern) Moyer, Travis T. Kern, Brooke A. Kern, and Sierra A. Kern; and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by Sisters, Doris (Kern) Leiby, Joanne (Kern) Zettle, Audrey (Kern) Seltmann; and a Brother, Donald Kern .

Graveside Services and inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown .
