Joan Ann (Opiary) Higgins, 56, of Maidencreek Township, formerly of Trooper, Montgomery County, died suddenly Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. She was the wife of Joseph F. Higgins. They were married August 27, 1977.
Born in Darby, Delaware County, she was a daughter of Joseph and Mary T. (Charnigo) Opiary, Broomall, Delaware County. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. In addition to homemaking, she worked as an administrative assistant for Streamlight, Inc., Norristown from 1990 to 1998. She then worked in Marketing for Total Containment, Inc., Oaks, from 1998 to 2004. Joan was a 1975 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. She was an avid knitter, quilter and crafter.
She is survived by Husband, Parents, Daughter, Molly Ann Higgins wife of Daniel P. DeFuso, Alburtis, Sister, Mary A. Opiary, Dothan, Ala, and a Brother, Joseph Opiary, Jr., Broomall. There is also a Granddaughter, Abigail V. DeFuso.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 22, 2010, from Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Friends may call Monday from 8:30 to 10:00 AM in the church.
