Jeffrey D. Mattox

Jeffrey D. Mattox, 65, of Kutztown, died Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.  Born in Allentown, Jeffrey is a son of the late Larry C. and Doris A. (Lightcap) Mattox.  Jeffrey honorably and faithfully served our country as a veteran of the United States Air Force.

A radio and film aficionado his entire life Jeff began his career in radio broadcasting working as a disc jockey for radio station WHOL, Allentown, when its programming was primarily Country music themed.  He continued in that profession being promoted to Station Traffic Manager.  Concurrently, he worked in movie theaters and eventually began working at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater, Lehighton, a business he eventually purchased and was currently operating.  The Drive-In is a step-back in time, showing classic and retro 35mm films, on a giant Cinemascope screen, that has operated since 1949.  The Mahoning Drive-In is the last Drive-In theater in the U.S. to use the 35mm film regularly, projected on one of the largest screens, with a capacity for 1,000 automobiles.

Jeffrey also enjoyed Classic cars and antiques.

Jeff is survived by his brother, Gary C. Mattox, Bolder, CO; Uncle, David W. and Sabilla A.(Young) Lightcap, Kutztown; Aunt, Margery (Wheeler) Mattox, Pine Grove.  He is also survived by a host of close friends.

A Funeral service to celebrate and honor Jeffrey's life will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM, in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Dennis L. Cooper, officiating. Interment in Becker's Saint Peter's Church Cemetery, Molltown.  Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
