A tribute to Jeffrey Allen Smith, written by his son, Brandon Smith.
Jeff was born to Raymond and Grace Smith on August 22, 1965 in Elizabeth, NJ, and passed in Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown, on February 9, 2022. After a long battle with cancer, he died at a very young 56 years of age.
Jeff spent the whole of his youth in Wanaque, NJ, where his love for baseball started and flourished. He played little league and high school at Lakeland High School where he enjoyed much success as their “go-to” south paw pitcher. He then went onto Ramapo College, playing in the college world series followed by several semi-pro teams.
At the age of 24, Jeff left the east coast for San Diego, CA, where he met and married his wife, Abigail Bauscher. They had four sons, all of whom inherited his love of baseball. They responded positively to his coaching from T-ball on to high school. Jeff was an enthusiastic and dedicated coach, just like his father before him. After moving his family back east in 2003, Jeff continued playing and coaching baseball at all levels and was always a kid’s favorite!
Devoted to his family and always there to lend a helping hand, Jeff’s positive attitude and quick wit will be greatly missed. He could always make you laugh, always kept his love of the game and never gave up on hope!
He was predeceased by his son, Dustin Smith and his father, Raymond Smith. Those left to miss his smile are his wife, Abigail, and sons, Brandon Garrett and Dillon Smith. His mother, Grace Smith and brother, Dr. Cory Smith are in Florence, SC.
