Jean L. Johnson, 81, of Grimley Street, Kutztown, formerly of Newtown Square, Bucks County, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, in her residence. She was married to the late Thomas L. Johnson, who died July 24, 2001.

Born in Ardmore, Montgomery County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and the late Mamie E. (Bailey) Awkerman. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Dunwoody Retirement Village, Newtown Square, for eight years retiring in 1986. Prior to that she worked for 28 years for Marple Newtown School District, Newtown Square, in food service, last working as manager. She was a 1942 graduate of the Lower Merion High School. She was a graduate of the former Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, in 1973, where she received a diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was president of the women’s organization of Baptist Church, Ardmore. She was a founding member of the Newtown Square Ambulance Corps, Newtown Square. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delaware Valley Chapter #528, Broomall, Delaware County, PA. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Kutztown

She is survived by Son, Donald T. Johnson, Leesport, (Bern Twp.); Daughter, Louise M. (Johnson) Hutchings, Kutztown (Maxatawny Twp.); Sister, Claire (Awkerman) Baldwin, Salem, Oregon; 4 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services are Thursday, May 19, 2005, at 11:00 AM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown. Interment is private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Thursday, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Eastern Star Services Thursday, 10:30 AM. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
