Jean E George

Jean E. (Mengel) George, 85, of Fleetwood, died peacefully, Sunday, February 7, 2016 in her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Harvey D. George, who died June 9, 2000.

Born in Greenwich Township, she was a daughter of the late George A., and Naomi C. (Graff) Mengel. Mrs. George was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Ziegels Union Church, Breinigsville. Jean was a 1948 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. She, along with her late husband Harvey, owned and operated the former Harvey D. George, Inc., and H & L Concrete Company, Virginville, from 1955 until 1999. Mrs. George also served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the business. Mrs. George was a member of East Penn Chapter 336, Order of the Eastern Star, Kutztown, a member of Virginville and Kutztown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliaries, and the Kutztown Grange.

She is survived by 3 Daughters, Donna K. (George), wife of Paul R. Unger, Lenhartsville, Karen B. (George), wife of Bill R. Shollenberger, Kutztown, Renee H. (George), wife of John J. Sexton, Drexel Hill; Son, Craig R., husband of Cynthia D. (Odegaard) George, Virginville; The family would like to acknowledge long-time care giver, Sherry Boaitey, who lovingly cared for Jean during her illness. Other survivors include Sisters, AnnaMae (Mengel), widow of Warren Weiss, Fleetwood, Nancy M. (Mengel), wife of Gerald Peters, Lenhartsville, Linda J. (Mengel), wife of Wayne Wanner, Kutztown; Brothers, Carl G., husband of Louise (Werley) Mengel, Breinigsville and Lee A., husband of Sandra (Snyder) Mengel, Kutztown. She is also survived by 5 Grandchildren, Christopher G. Unger, Kyle R. Shollenberger, Cara E. (Sexton), wife of Matthew S. Foran, Matthew C., husband of Jacquelyn E. (DePetris) Sexton and Cori L. Shollenberger, M.D.; and one Great Granddaughter, Reina C. Unger. Jean was predeceased by a Sister, Erma S. (Mengel) Gift, and a Brother, Nevin Mengel, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM in Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, with Reverend Candi L. Cain-Borgman officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining Ziegels Church Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening, February 10, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown and again on Thursday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 AM in the church. Order of the Eastern Star service will be held Wednesday evening at 6:15 PM in the funeral home.
