Jean A. (Sunday) Wetzel, 93, of Kutztown, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 17, 2024, in her residence. She was the widow of Ernest H. Wetzel, who died February 2, 2006. Born in Greenwich Township, Jean was a daughter of the late Walter R. and Lillie (Schappell) Sunday and was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Class of 1948.
Jean most recently worked as a baker with Weis Markets, Kutztown, since 2002 until her retirement. Prior to that, she worked with the cleaning staff of Caloric Corporation at its former Topton plant, and as a sewing machine operator at Deisher Knitting Mills, Kutztown.
Mrs. Wetzel was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Krumsville, an 80-year member of the Virginville Grange and a member of the former Virginville Lioness Club. She was a member and former treasurer of the Sliding Dutchman Snowmobile Club, and a member of Kutztown and Virginville Fire Companies Ladies Auxiliaries. Jean loved to bake and cook and share her treats with her family and friends.
Jean is survived by her four children, Janice L. (Wetzel), wife of Kenneth Clemmer, Richmond Township, Jeffrey D., husband of Cynthia L. (Epting) Wetzel, Rockland Township, Eileen J. (Wetzel), wife of Troy E. Adam, Kutztown, and Carol J. (Wetzel), wife of Martin C. Wolfinger, Kutztown; seven grandchildren, Angel M. (Adam) Zimmerman, Allison C. (Wetzel) Smolinsky, Coleen C. (Adam) Crills, Jaimee L. (Wetzel) Stemko, Ashly R. (Adam) Nolt, Tyler C. Wolfinger, Avery M. Wolfinger; and 18 great-grandchildren, Alexis Stemko, Macy Zimmerman, Owen Stemko, Gracie Stemko, Jacob Zimmerman, Lucas Zimmerman, Colby Crills, Carly Crills, Carson Crills, Riley Nolt, Ellie Nolt, Sophie Stemko, Sadie Stemko, Nathaniel Smolinsky, Ryan Smolinsky, Nolan Wolfinger, Waylon Wolfinger, and Lawson Wolfinger.
Along with her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her siblings, Elsie Sayer, Emma Fegley, May Celmer, Ellen Gangaware, Edith Reinsel, Earl Sunday, Lawrence Sunday, Hattie Rentschler, Howard Sunday and twin sister, Jane Treichler.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Jean's life will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, with Vicar Jeremiah T. Heydt, officiating. Interment will follow in New Bethel Zion Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to viewings on Tuesday evening, May 21st, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
The family requests contributions be considered in Jean's memory to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane, Kutztown, PA 19530.
