James W. Gay, 81, of Oley Road (Ruscombmanor Twp.) Fleetwood, PA, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, in Berks Heim, Bern Township, Leesport, PA. He was married to Rita T. (Jaskowiak) Setta-Gay, they were married September 21, 1996.
Born in St. Albans, VT, he was the son of the late Charles and the late Mary (McFeeters) Gay. He was a utilities engineer and senior mechanical engineer for Carpenter Technology Corporation, Reading from 1974 until his retirement in 1986. Prior to that he was employed as Chief of Propulsion Systems at National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Sandusky, Ohio, from 1962 to 1973; Equipment Engineer and Supervisor for Hamilton Standard Division, United Aircraft Corporation, Windsor Locks, Connecticut from 1954 to 1962; He first worked as a Fire Protection Engineer for Factory Mutual Engineering, Bosten, Mass. He was a 1941 graduate of Bellows Free Academy, Saint Albans, VT; he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass, in 1949. He was a 2 nd Lieutenant and Naval Aviator in the US Marine Corps during WWII, and served as a Captain of the Air National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown (Richmond Twp.).
He is survived by Wife, Sons, Robert C. Gay, Las Vegas, NV, Thomas A. Gay, Huntington, PA; Step Sons, Joseph B. Setta, Pennsylvania, Gary J. Setta, North Granby, CT, Gregory P. Setta, Orlando, Fla., Staff Sgt. Kenneth P. Setta, US Army, stationed in Iraq; Daughter, Carole Ann (Gay) Zibert, Littleton, Colorado; Step Daughters, Colleen M. (Setta) Deely, Abington, Montgomery County, PA, Patricia A. (Setta) Kane, Longwood, Fla., Rita A. (Setta) Kittredge, Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA, Jennifer A. Setta, Reading, PA; 3 Grandchildren, 17 Step Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by a Son, Donald J. Gay, who died in 2000.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 AM from Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown (Richmond Twp.). Private inurnment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County. Friends may call Saturday, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the church.
