James S. Schappell

James S. "Jim" Schappell, 71, of Kutztown, formerly of Tamaqua, died Monday, June 15, 2026, in Willow Brook Nursing and Rehabilitation, Kutztown. He was the loving husband of R. Gail. (Carl) Schappell. They were married September 24, 1977. Born in Allentown, Jim was a son of the late Chester L. and Anna M. (Borrell) Schappell.

Jim was the owner and operator of Jim Schappell Builder's, Tamaqua, for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2020.

He enjoyed, tinkering, building things and fishing, a hobby he fondly shared with each of his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by three daughters: Rebecca L. Schappell, fiance of Rob Gellner, Hackettstown, NJ; Elizabeth A. (Schappell), wife of Anthony Napolitano, Tamaqua; and Stephanie N. (Schappell), wife of Eric Clausius, Tamaqua. Other survivors include two sisters, Jayne (Schappell), widow of Harold Flicker, Topton; and Jody (Schappell), wife of Roger Beury, Gilbertsville. There are six grandchildren: Alysa (Schappell) Litz; Alexis Schappell; Allie Schappell; Anthony Schappell; Aubrey Schappell; and Abigail Schappell.

Services for Jim will be private at the convenience of the family.
