James E. Reistroffer, 82, of Kutztown, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Lois A. (Miller) Reistroffer, whom he married May 16, 1980 .
Born in Clinton, Iowa, he was a son of the late Arnold P. and Marion M. (Kennedy) Reistroffer. He was a 1948 graduate of Clinton (Iowa) High School. Jim began his U. S. Navy career in 1948, having served in both Korea and Vietnam. His 20 plus year military career included serving on the Naval Operations Base, Canal Zone, Panama; Navel Receiving Station, Washington, DC; he was staff commander of Middle East forces on the USS Valcour, USS Greenwich, and the USS Duxburry Bay; he served at the Naval Mine Craft Base, Charleston, SC; Headquarters at the Potomac River Naval Command, Washington, DC; USS San Pablo (AGS-30); the Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, Indian Head, MD; and on the USS Henley (DD-762). He then transferred from active duty to fleet reserve in 1968, after 20 years of service. In 1968, he became an Analyst III of Business Operations with Met-Ed, until his retirement in 1988. He then was a customer shuttle driver at the former Mente Chevrolet, Kutztown from 1988 to 1997. Always involved in his community, Jim was treasurer/committee member of Cub Pack 101, Kutztown; a certified American Softball Association Umpire; member/umpire of the Kutztown Youth Athletic Association; and a referee for youth basketball. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #839, Kutztown; Hoch-Balthaser Post #480, Kutztown, and the Kutztown Optimist Club, having served as their President in 1986.
He is survived by Wife; Children, Shelley L. (Reistroffer) wife of Michael McKinnon, Houston, TX, Stacey L. Reistroffer, Temple, Sharon L. (Reistroffer) Fuhrmann, Oley, Chris D., husband of Cheryl L. (Bauscher) Manwiller, Lenhartsville, Kelly A. (Manwiller) Scheetz, Kutztown. Other survivors include a Sister, Marianne (Reistroffer) widow of Ronald Taylor, Racine, WI. There are also 10 Grandchildren, Christian L. Reistroffer, Phillip M. McKinnon, Matthew J. McKinnon, Allison N. McKinnon, Brooke T. Fuhrmann, Katelyn M. Manwiller, Brandon T. Fuhrmann, Brittany A. Manwiller, Justin D. Scheetz, and Harley A. Scheetz. He was pre-deceased by a Brother, Daniel P. Reistroffer .
Funeral Services are Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown , 19530. Interment with military honors provided by the US Navy will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home .
