Mr. James D. Mabry

October 16, 1946 — April 24, 2020

James D. Mabry, 73, of Topton, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Suzanne E. (Hieter) Mabry, his high school sweetheart, for 51 years.

Born in Allentown, Jim was a son of the late David W. and Marjorie (Boyer) Mabry. Jim loved his family, his food, and his sports all his life.

He graduated from Brandywine Heights Area High School, where he was senior class president. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Albright College. Before retiring in 2004, he was a systems analyst at First Energy in Reading and prior worked for Atlantic Richfield in Philadelphia.

After retirement, Jim volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Topton Food Pantry, and played softball for Lyons Seniors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton, where he formerly served on church council. Jim coached youth baseball and soccer for many years. Serving as chairman, he was a member and Endman of the former Brandywine Minstrels for over 30 years, fondly known as Pork Chop. He was a president of the Brandywine Sports Boosters. He served on Topton Borough Council, The Brandywine Heights Area School District School Board for 12 years and The Berks County Intermediate Unit for three years.

In addition to his wife Suzy, Jim is survived by his son Matthew D. Mabry, and wife Tracy; two granddaughters, Sierra and Payton; sister, Ann (Mabry) Miller, and husband Willard.

Along with his parents, Jim was predeceased by a son James A. Mabry on November 29, 2004.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Longswamp Park (Upper Pavilion), 1112 State Street, Mertztown, PA, with classmate and friend, The Reverend Barbara Gerlach officiating. The family requests that all attendees dress casually. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the park.

Burial will be held privately in Topton Union Cemetery. (In the event of severe inclement weather, the service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown, right next to the park.)
