Irene E. Kern

Irene E. (Beihl) Kern, 90, of Maxatawny Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in Cornerstone Living, New Tripoli, where she was a resident since March. Irene was the widow of Lee W. Kern, who died on November 14, 2020.

Born in Reading and raised on a farm in Richmond Township, Irene was a daughter of the late Amos and Annie (Hoch) Beihl. She was a 1952 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and was a former member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, Richmond Township, and most recently attended Lighthouse Community Church of Lyons. She married her late husband Lee on June 27, 1953 and they lived on their Maxatawny Township farm for many years. Irene was a homemaker who took great pride in her home. She was a proud farmer's wife, having lived on a farm her entire life. She even had an egg delivery route for several years.

Irene was a member of Antique Engine Tractor and Toy Club, Kutztown Grange #1836, and Weisenberg / Lowhill Township Historical Society. She liked to knit, complete cross-word puzzles and picture puzzles. Irene and Lee enjoyed their weekly trips to locals sales on Fridays and to Alburtis Park on Sundays.

Irene is survived by her son-in-law, Richard Gressley, Maxatawny Township, widower of predeceased daughter, Lucille F. (Kern) "Lucy" Gressley, who died August 15, 2023, granddaughter, Samantha L. (Gressley), wife of John A. Queman, Richmond Township; great-granddaughter, Sidney A. Queman; cousin, Joan Beihl; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn M. (Kern) Kemp and Doris A. (Kern) Weiser, both of Topton and their families.

A graveside funeral service to celebrate and honor Irene's life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, 340 Moselem Church Road, Kutztown, PA, with Pastor Alton Zentner officiating. At Irene's request, there will be no viewing.
