Howard P. Schauer, Jr., 87, of Topton, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Lorraine R. (Siegfried) Schauer. They were married November 9, 1946.
Born in Bowers, he was a son of the late Howard P., Sr., and Lillian M. (Keiser) Schauer. He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Topton, where he was a former member of the church consistory and a choir member for over 50 years. Mr. Schauer was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor by the borough of Topton for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Ray A. Master Post #217, American Legion, Topton and an active participant of its honor guard. He was also a member of AMVETS. Mr. Schauer was a time keeper for Brandywine Heights High School sporting events for over 40 years, and a former member of the Brandywine Minstrels.
He is survived by Wife, Son, Brand H. "Skip" husband of Sopa (Konsing) Schauer, Gettysburg; Sister, Lorraine (Schauer) widow of Buster Weiser, Riverview Park; Grandchildren, Kelly L. (Schauer) wife of Daniel A. Hughes and Ryan H. husband of Melinda T. (Tillson) Schauer, and Great Grandchildren, Ethan J. and Avery C. Schauer.
Memorial Services are Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM in St. Peters United Church of Christ, 122 West Franklin Street, Topton. Inurnment in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Friends may call Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the church.
The family requests contributions be made to the Ray A. Master Post #217, American Legion Honor Guard, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton, PA 19562 or the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, P.O. Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
