Hilda May Jentsch, 90, a retired elementary school teacher, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at The Lutheran Home at Topton. She was the wife of Rev. Dr. Theodore W. Jentsch. They were married March 21, 1987 .
Born in Reading , she was a daughter of the late William E. and Hilda B. (Berger) Troutman. Mrs. Jentsch was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood and Grace Lutheran Congregation of The Lutheran Home at Topton. She was a 1942 graduate of Reading High School and a 1946 graduate of Kutztown State Teacher’s College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
A teacher for twenty-five years, Hilda was last employed for twenty years at the Riverview Park Elementary School in the Muhlenberg Township School District, Laureldale, retiring in 1986. She held previous teaching positions in Reading, PA, Long Beach, CA, and Lakeland, FL. As long as she was able, Hilda volunteered her time at the Lutheran Home at Topton, reading to visually challenged residents. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her as a generous, gracious, and unfailingly kind person; a lady in the very best sense of the word .
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a Son, Michael J., husband of Heather (Reed) Ludwig, Media, PA; 2 Step-Daughters, Dr. Lynda J. (Jentsch), wife of Bart Grooms, Birmingham, AL, and Nancy K. (Jentsch), wife of Philip M. Enzweiler, Camp Springs, KY; and 4 Step-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by a Daughter, Susan L. Ludwikowski in 2003; her first husband, Florian J. Ludwikowski in 2004; a Son, Lee J. Ludwig in 2009; and 2 Sisters, Wilma (Troutman) Walborn, Eleanor (Troutman) Sheffer, and Norma (Troutman) Szajna .
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 1:00 PM in Grace Lutheran Church, located on the campus of The Lutheran Home at Topton, 1 South Home Avenue, Topton, with Reverend Carl R. Schmoyer officiating. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM in the church. Interment will be private in Forrest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton .
The family requests contributions be made in Hilda's memory to The Brandywine Community Library, 60 Tower Drive, Topton, PA 19562 . Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
