Herbert C Simonson

Herbert Charles Simonson, 83, faithful & loving husband for 57 years, died while living with his wife Carole at the home of his daughter Jane, and son-in-law Guy & their daughter Caroline, on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 after a long illness. He was born in Smithtown, Long Island, NY, on March 23, 1930. His father, William, a wounded WWI Veteran, died when Herbert was four. Herb was always devoted to his mother, Haidee Simonson, and close with his older brother Bill. Working hard to put him¬self through college, Herb earned a B.S. Degree from Oswego State Teachers College. He learned to fly while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Before taking his family abroad, and teaching at a public high school and a boy’s mission in Palau, Micronesia, Mr. Simonson taught Industrial Arts & Drafting, at C.B. West. Later he and his wife taught at Samoana High School (Pago Pago, American Samoa). He dedicated a year of missionary service in the Philippines, teaching carpentry. A skilled woodworker & cabinetmaker, Herb left teaching to work for A. Luther Nash Co. He then finally achieved his dream of owning his own shop, doing custom cabinetry & wood turning and continued woodworking until March 2013.

He is survived by his darling wife Carole, his loving daughter Jane and her husband Guy Ramsey and their daughter Caroline in Bucks County; his loving daughter Beth and her husband Richard Leatherman and their daughters Megan and Kathryn in Fletcher, NC., and his loving, only son David Herbert Simonson in Maui, HI.
