Helen K. Schnabl, 90, of Lenhartsville, Greenwich Township, formerly of Elkins Park, Montgomery County, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 in her residence. She was the widow of Martin Schnabl, who died November 30, 2003 .
Born in Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Kastner) Koehler. She graduated from Temple University with both a Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown, were she was a member of the Tuesday Faith Sharing Group and Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Schnabl was a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu Sorority, a co-ed professional business fraternity and also served as National Editor for Phi Gamma Nu Magazine. She was a member of the Republican Women's Federal Forum, Washington D.C., World Affairs Council, Philadelphia, PA and Friends of Independence National Historic Park, Philadelphia, PA. She was a school teacher for Southampton High School, Montgomery County in 1945 and then taught business education from 1947-1952 at Adult Evening School in Philadelphia, PA. In 1949, she, along with her late husband, purchased and operated John Eppler Machine Works, Inc., Philadelphia, where she served in many capacities. Helen served as president since 2003 until her death. A specialty machine building company, Eppler Machine was the 1982 recipient of the President's "E" award for excellence in exporting from the United States Department of Commerce.
She is survived by Daughter, Linda S. Schnabl, Easton, MD; Son, Martin J., husband of Janice L. (O'Brien) Schnabl, Lenhartsville; 2 Grandchildren, Gregory M. Schnabl and Leeann Schnabl, both of Lenhartsville .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM from Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, with Reverend Monsignor Walter T. Scheaffer, celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia. Relatives and friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the church .
The family requests contributions be made to Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA 19530 . Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
