Gregory L. "Greg" Barlet, 69, of Longswamp Township, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, while at work. He was the loving and devoted husband to Doreen K. (Bales) Barlet, whom he married on March 31, 1973. Born in Allentown, Greg was a son of the late Norman Barlet, Jr., and Ruth A. (Bennicoff) Barlet and was a graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Topton.
Greg was a skilled and respected heavy equipment operator. He began his career working for his father-in-law, Gus Bales and Sons. He later worked for JMT Environmental in the Lehigh Valley for over 20 years. Following his time at JMT, Greg briefly worked for his brother-in-law at Carl Bales Excavating. Most recently, Greg was employed by New Enterprise working at their Egypt, PA, quarry as a loader operator for the past 12 years. There was no equipment too large for Greg; he could operate it all.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fly fishing and surf fishing, especially at Myrtle Beach, SC. He had a deep love for animals and was recently predeceased by his best bud, "Gus". He had a heart of gold and a good soul. Above all, he was the best "Pappy" anyone could ever ask for. He truly loved his family and being around them. Gregory was a cherished husband, father, and friend, whose spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Along with his wife of 53 years, Doreen, Greg is survived by his daughter, Crystal L. (Barlet), wife of Brandon "Matt" Hess, Mertztown; two granddaughters, Morgann B. Hess and Abigail K. Hess; and five great-grandchildren, Novalyn, Jase, Tyler, Amelia and Kendall. He is also survived by his two brothers, Bruce N. Barlet, Mertztown, and Don K. Barlet, and his wife Tina, of Reading.
A memorial gathering to celebrate and honor Greg's life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at his home in Alburtis, PA. Please come casual, bring a lawn chair, and stay as long as you would like to reminisce and remember Greg. Please contact daughter Crystal for their address 484-661-8256 or Brandon 484-637-3865.
