Grant A Reed

Grant A. “Jesse” Reed, 73, of Lyon Station, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Ruth Ann (Shaver) Reed. They were married June 20, 1964.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Frank H. and Florence M. (Reppert) Reed. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bowers. He honorably served his country as a seaman in the US Navy during peacetime. Mr. Reed worked as a hot mill finisher at Carpenter Technology, Reading, for 33 years until his retirement in 1998. He first worked for East Penn Manufacturing Co., Lyon Station as a truck driver and laborer for eight years. He was a member of Lyons Fire Company, Lyon Station, Rockland Rod & Gun Club, Rockland Township, and was a member of the Lyons Senior Softball Team.

He is survived by Wife; Sons, Jesse A. husband of Cheryl A. (Eckert) Reed, Mertztown, Todd M. husband of Karen K. (Fegely) Reed, Kutztown; Daughter, Michele L. “Missy” wife of Robert W. Heffner, Virginville. There is a Sister, Vivian V. (Reed) widow of Howard Keppley, Hopkinsville, KY, and a Brother, Dalton S. husband of Suzanne (Baer) Reed, Lyon Station. Other survivors include Grandchildren, Benjamen A. Reed, Tyler G. Reed, Hannah E. Reed, Samantha K. Reed, Malori M. Heffner and Lydia R. Heffner. He was predeceased by a Sister, Clarabel (Reed) Henry; and Brothers, Mark, Charles and Dallas Reed.

Memorial Services are Thursday, September 16, 2010, 11:00 AM from Hope Lutheran Church, 550 Fleetwood Road, Bowers. Private Interment in Lyons Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church.
