Gordon J. Hugo, 77, of Kutztown, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the loving husband of Maliwal "Molly" (Pholadeedmontri) Hugo, whom he met in Thailand and married on January 8, 1970.
Born in Bath, PA, Gordon was a son of the late George J. and Lucinda A. (Fox) Hugo and was a 1964 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He was employed as a machinist for all his career, working at the former Bethlehem Steel for 30 years and later, Fisher Clinical Services until his retirement.
Gordon was a proud veteran. He honorably and faithfully served his country in The United States Army for four years during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, Gordon was a member of Army Security Agency (ASA), where he bravely embarked on his military journey, selflessly putting his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens. His service was a testament to his courage and commitment to preserving the freedoms we hold dear. Gordon was most recently a member of The Kutztown Vietnam Veterans Breakfast Club and was very proud of the recent hosting of The Wall That Heals. He was also a member of the former Bowers Lions Club, was an avid gardener and loved watching his grandsons play baseball.
Along with his wife of 53 years, Molly, Gordon is survived by his two sons, Ekapoj Thongin, D.M.D., and his wife, Tonya, Lynnwood, WA, and Gregory J. Hugo, Kutztown; three grandsons, Joseph J. Hugo, Tyler G. Hugo and Nicholas J. Hugo; and four siblings, Sherwood D. Hugo, Larry T. Hugo, Sylvia M. (Hugo) Conrad and Curtis M. Hugo; and along with his parents, was predeceased by a sister, Ruthann Hugo.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Gordon's life will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Keith K. Rohrbach officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, PA, will conclude the service.
