Gene A. DeLong, 66, of Fleetwood, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 in Jefferson Hospital of Neuroscience, Philadelphia, where he was a patient since September 16, 2010. He was the husband of Patricia D. (Shuman) DeLong. They were married August 21, 1971.
Born in Perry Township, Berks Co., he was a son of the late Herman G., Sr. and Mildred R. (Stern) DeLong. Gene was a 1961 graduate of Fleetwood High School and 1970 graduate of Allentown Business School with an associate degree in accounting. He was an U.S. Army veteran. Gene was a member of Maidencreek Church and the Fleetwood Rod and Gun Club. He was employed by the Fleetwood School District as a custodian at the Andrew Maier Elementary School, Blandon, since 2005. Prior to that, he was a purchasing manager at McConway and Torley, Kutztown Foundry Division, Kutztown, for 31 years.
He is survived by Wife, Sons, Jeffery M. DeLong, Fleetwood, and Scott A. husband of Jill M. (VanGoethem) DeLong, Blandon; Sister, Doris M. DeLong, Kutztown; Brothers, Herman G. DeLong, Jr., Bowers, Richard J. DeLong, Lyons, Dennis D. DeLong, Kutztown, Marvin P. DeLong, Reading, Martin C. DeLong, Mertztown. He is also survived by Grandchildren, Douglas S. DeLong, Emily R. DeLong, Noah J. DeLong. He was predeceased by Brother, James J. DeLong in 1970.
Funeral Services are Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM from Maidencreek Church, 261 Main Street, Blandon. Interment with military honors, provided by Ray A. Master Post #217, Topton, will be in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Family and friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.
