The Reverend Gary Lee Whittington, 77, of Kutztown, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was the loving husband of MaryEllen (O'Reilly) Whittington, whom he married on December 31, 2004.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio, Gary was a son of the late Andrew and Betty (Upp) Whittington. Following his high school graduation in Lancaster, Ohio, Gary attended Ohio State University. While he was a student at Ohio State, Gary had the call to become an ordained minister. He attended seminary at Palmer Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree. Rev. Gary was also a Certified Trauma Therapist.

Pastor Whittington served several churches over the years including Berean Baptist Church in Reading, PA for 25 years. Prior to that, he served as a Pastor in Erie and Slatington, PA. He was also a Chaplain for several Manor Care facilities in Berks County, PA, and was their Head of Chaplain Services. Most recently, Rev. Whittington was a Chaplain for Heartland Hospice, Wyomissing.

Pastor Gary enjoyed gardening, music and playing guitar. He also was a proud Ohio State and Phillies fan.

Along with his wife of 21 years, Mary, Gary is survived by his children, Aaron Whittington, and wife, Regan of Philadelphia, PA, Molly Dixon of Boyertown, PA, The Rev. Amanda Furbeck of Macungie, PA, and Emily Williams, Los Angeles, CA; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rev. Gary was predeceased by his two sisters, Penny and Nancy.

Gary's body was donated to Humanity Gifts Registry to support the continuation of Alzheimer's Disease research and to benefit future healthcare providers.
