G. Hamill Philips, 97, formerly of Harrisburg, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 in The Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the widower of Marjorie E. (Belt) Philips who died April 22, 2006.

Born in Blairsville, Indiana County, PA, he was a son of the late George W. and Mabel E. (Hamill) Philips. He was Presbyterian. However, he attended Grace Lutheran Church on the campus of The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he and his late wife were residents for many years. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having seen foreign service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre while participating in the New Guinea Campaign. He was an independent insurance broker having owned and operated the Berkley – Detweiler Insurance Agency, Harrisburg, from 1965 until 1995. Mr. Philips was a 1934 Graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. He was a member of Rotary International, Kutztown; Cosmopolitan Club, Harrisburg, where he was a past president; and a member of the Certified Property & Casualty Underwriters Association.

He is survived by Daughter, Harriet E. (Philips) wife of Allen L. Forsman, Rockland Township, Berks County. Sons, Richard B. husband of Kathleen B. (Benton) Philips, Barrington, RI, Robert G. husband of Regina A. (Flood) Philips, Newtown Square, Delaware County. In addition, there are 7 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson.

Memorial Services are Friday, April 18, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room of “D” Building, The Lutheran Home at Topton, One South Home Avenue, Topton, PA 19562. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. There is no viewing. The family will receive friends after the services.

The family requests contributions be made to the memorial fund of Grace Lutheran Church, One South Home Avenue, Topton, PA 19562. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
