Frederick J Saul

Frederick Jerome Saul, 86, formerly of College Gardens, Kutztown, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, near Allentown where he was admitted April 30, 2008, from Hearthstone at Maidencreek, his current residence. He was the widower of Beatrice C. (Conrad) Saul who died March 15, 2006.

Born in Kutztown, PA, he was a son of the late Daniel M. and Laura S. (Christman) Saul. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he was a past church council member and life-long choir member. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Saul was a Computer Engineer for 38 years at the former Lucent Technologies, Muhlenberg Township, until his retirement in 1984. Frederick was a 1939 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Kutztown and a 1941 graduate of Penn State University, receiving an associate degree in engineering. He was a founding member of the Kutztown Jaycees, a member of the Kutztown Community Choir, Kutztown Fire Company and Hoch - Balthaser Post #480, American Legion, Kutztown. He performed in the Brandywine Minstrels for many years and for over 20 years held lead roles in productions at the Kutztown Folk Festival depicting the Pennsylvania Dutch lifestyle. He was known as “the bishop” and performed many weddings atop the big green chair, and participated in the hanging performed at the festival as well. He also participated in the many plays performed for the visitors of the festival. Mr. Saul was a member of the Kutztown Municipal Authority, a volunteer at Lehigh Valley Hospital, and served as Superintendent of Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, for over 10 years.

He is survived by Daughter, Melissa I. Saul wife of Dr. Ronnie C. Parker, Pittsburgh; Son, Peter F. husband of Natalie A. (Powell) Saul, Kutztown. There are 2 Grandchildren, Scott D. Saul and Amanda K. Adams, and a Cousin, Dorothy (Saul) Herring, Allentown. He was predeceased by Brothers, Edgar, Willard, and J. Gomer Saul.

Funeral Services are Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 10:30 AM from Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 W. Main Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Tuesday, 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown.
