Fred Calvin Ely

Fred Calvin Ely, 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12th, 2025 with his loving wife Cheryl by his side. Born in Franklin, PA on December 26th, 1955, Fred was the son of the late Ora Mae Ely and Ralph H. Ely of Topton, PA.

Fred loved the outdoors and was an avid bike rider, fisherman, and motorcyclist. Whenever he had spare time, he took his canoe or kayak out on the water. Fred was an avid reader who would share his knowledge on many topics. Fred never met a stranger; his welcoming smile and genuine nature made him a friend to all. Whether sharing stories, lending a hand, or simply brightening someone’s day with a conversation. Fred had an incredible gift for connecting with people. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Among his greatest joys were his grandchildren, whose love sustained him and brought him immeasurable happiness. Fred will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Fred graduated from Parkland High School and then went on to Williamsport where he earned his degree in aviation maintenance technology. Fred worked at Mack trucks for 10 years in Macungie, PA and then moved to Virginia where he worked for United Airlines as an aircraft technician for 32 years at Dulles until retiring in December 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Fred C. Ely of Alexandria VA; two daughters Allison A. Ely of Warrenton and Kimberly A. Harvey & her husband, Mitchell G. Harvey of Christiansburg VA; grandson, Rivers Kurtz-Ely of Bethlehem PA; granddaughter, Aliza A. Harvey of Christiansburg VA; sister, Vera Lee Frederick (Jim) and brother, Mark C. Ely. He is also survived by extended family; brother-in-law, Ronald Trexler; two sisters-in-law, Deb (Keith) Hallman & Jean (Erik) Dalstad and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he was very proud of.
