Forrest L Merkel

Forrest L. Merkel, Sr., 81, of Jefferson Street, Mertztown, PA, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, in Kutztown Manor, Kutztown, where he had been a resident since February 19, 2003. He was the husband of Myrtle E. (Behm) Merkel. They were married 61 years last April 13 ^th .

Born in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, he was the son of the late Howard E. and the late Perma M. (Seidel) Merkel. He was a laborer at the former General Seating Company, Topton, for 19 years retiring in 1987. Prior to that he was employed at the former Beck’s Feed and Grain Mill, Kutztown, for 24 years. He was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, where he was past council member for over 4 years. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII.

He is survived by Wife, Sons, Forrest L. Merkel, Jr., Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.), Linwood J. Merkel, Mertztown (Longswamp Twp.); Daughter, Patricia A. (Merkel) Siegfried, Breinigsville (Longswamp Twp.); 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by a Grandson, George N. Siegfried, July 4, 1993.

Funeral Services are Friday, January 7, 2005 at 10:30 AM from the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 E. Weis Street, Topton. Interment with Military Honors in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
