Florence Mae Herring

Florence Mae Herring, age 94, formerly of South Kern Drive, Topton PA, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 in the Henry Health Care Center of the Lutheran Home at Topton, Topton PA where she had been a resident since February 2001. She was the Widow of the late Wilbur F. Herring who died in December 1977.

Born in Watsontown PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Bertha May (Tyson) Leech. She was a Member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home at Topton, Topton PA. She was a 1925 graduate of Watsontown High School, Watsontown, PA; a Graduate of Pott's Business College, Williamsport, PA; she completed a two year course in Parish Education at the Lutheran Deaconess Motherhouse and Training School, Baltimore MD; and she attended Wittenberg University, Springfield OH.

She served as a House Parent for three years at the former Oesterlen Orphan's Home, Springfield OH; she was the Director of the Lutheran Inner Mission Neighborhood House, Toledo OH; along with her husband, she served as Manager from 1954 to 1955 at the Lutheran Home for the Aged, Lancaster PA; and she served as Director of Activities for the Aging for 10 years and established and Managed the Clothing Store for 8 years at the Lutheran Home at Topton, Topton.

She is survived by her Nephew, Keith E. Gearhart of Jersey Shore PA.

Graveside Services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, November 4, 2002 in Watsontown Cemetery, Watsontown PA. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 21, 2002 in Grace Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Home at Topton, 1 South Home Avenue, Topton PA 19562. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Homes of Topton PA.
