F Richard Urwiler

F. Richard “Dick” Urwiler, 80, of Rockland Township , died Monday, January 13, 2014. He was the widower of Leslie F. (Brode) Urwiler, who died July 22, 2008. His former wife Yvonne Destout resides in Burke, VA.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Frank and Maude Urwiler. Dick was a 1951 graduate of Lansdale High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree from Villanova University. Richard was a United States Army Veteran. After holding a number of engineering positions, he cofounded Urwiler & Walter, Inc., in 1966, a civil engineering and surveying firm established in Sumneytown, later expanding with offices in Lansdale and Souderton. Dick retired in 1992. He was an active member of Montgomery County SPCA where he served on the Board of Directors for 20 years, including serving as president from 1998 to 2007. Dick enjoyed spending time with his Lansdale High School classmates.

Dick is survived by his children, Nancy Jean, wife of Henry Skoczalek, Philadelphia; David Richard, Houston, TX; Amy, wife of Parker Normann, Fairfax Station, VA; and Leigh, wife of Craig Obenski, Rockland Township. He is also survived by his siblings Betty Jean Rothenberger, Joan Kelly, Lee Urwiler, Pamela Hagerty, and Penny Lindsay. There are also 10 Grandchildren, Katie  (Skoczalek) Schmidt, Jonathan Skoczalek, Sarah Skoczalek, Jacob Normann, Adelaide Normann, Miles Lyons, Caroline Obenski, Anja Obenski, Mary Beth Urwiler and Maggie Urwiler.  Dick was predeceased by a Sister, Claire and a Brother, Robert .

Memorial Services are Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown , 19530. Family and friends may call Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home .

The family requests contributions be made to Montgomery County SPCA, 19 Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428-0222 . Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
